New Year Vision Board Reflection Day https://www.mindfulnessassociation.net/course/35131/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=35131 Tue, 01 Oct 2024 12:58:32 +0000 https://www.mindfulnessassociation.net/?post_type=mec-events&p=35131 ]]>

With Fay Adams

Do you feel that you’re a bit off course? Would you like to feel more aligned with yourself and your vision for life in 2025? Does the idea of feeling inspired by a sense of possibility and potential for the coming year stir something within you? Would time to reflect, create and share in friendly company be just lovely?

You’re invited to join us for a day of creatively connecting with your your inspirations, aspirations, longings and dreams for 2025 through making a vision board! You don’t need to think of yourself as creative or artistic to participate – this is a day to follow your heart, leave aside your self-critic and get into the joy of creative flow.

When we give dedicated time to getting out of our heads and connecting with ourselves though following our creative impulse and our intuitive hunches, we are often thrilled and surprised by what emerges.

Vision boards seem to have a magical influence on the future through the power of clarity and intention and through bringing alignment with what feels true to us. If we connect with our heart, we find our north star and then we’re more likely to stay on course.

On the day we’ll combine mindfulness practice and reflection with a long period of silent creative immersion and then we’ll conclude by sharing with others. We’ll give a little bit of kind attention to our self-critic before we begin, so that we feel more free to follow our flow and then we’ll see what emerges!

Before the day you’ll be guided to prepare by gathering materials and inspiring images, quotes or poems. All you need as a minimum is a (preferably) A2 sized piece of card, thick paper or board, glue, some magazines to cut out, some scissors and something to make marks with. Even part of a cardboard box would work! More info will be sent out to you in the weeks preceding the day.

Have a watch of this short video to see an example – my 2024 vision board (credit goes to the Needs Based Coaching Institute for this wonderful idea and for facilitating the workshop that produced this)

With Alan Hughes

Using the breath as a support is probably one of the best known mindfulness practices, and one of the first that many people learn. This can sometimes give the impression that the Mindfulness of Breath is a “basic practice” but as our mindfulness deepens we discover that this can be an incredibly rich practice, which can help us cultivate both tranquillity and insight. This will be a day focused around mindfulness practice, where we will take time to deepen our awareness of the breath, drawing from some of the teachings of the Buddhist Anapanasati Sutta. While this day is open to anyone, it will probably be of most benefit to people who already have some experience of mindfulness.

Poetry is a particularly beautiful medium with which both gratitude and awe can be expressed. Arguably nothing captures these feelings better! Gratitude is perhaps more soft and connecting, while awe’s heart-stopping, jaw-dropping tingles connect us to what is vaster than us. Both provide us with a particular kind of helpful inner alchemy that nudges us closer to what is precious and mysterious about existence. Research tells us that these feelings influence our sense of self and our relationship to the world, bringing humility, expansion, generosity and a loosening of egocentricity.

On this retreat day we’ll receive a diverse range of poems on this theme in a mindful way. We’ll be allowing ourselves to let go of figuring poems out or feeling we should ‘get’ them and instead we’ll practice trusting that they will work on us if we can sit in an embodied and present way. Each poem takes us on a journey and many poems have a gift to give us. Where will this day take you and what gifts will you receive?

Expect some time for introducing the theme and sharing experiences in the first and last sessions, with the main bulk of the day in friendly silence.

The Mindfulness Association are delighted to be a partner in this international conference whose aim is to discover how mindfulness and compassion can contribute to addressing the challenges we face.

Join us if you can in Bangor, we have a stall there, do come and say hello! Alternatively you can join the conference online. Please see below for all the details.

Conference Focus

As the world and our society rapidly evolve, this is the moment to come together and explore how mindfulness can move beyond its current boundaries, reaching into areas of critical need and serving as a positive force for change. The conference offers a unique opportunity to meet and engage with leaders in the field of mindfulness and compassion. In addition, it will include voices that have historically not had a seat at the table. This gathering will serve as a space for connection, inquiry and discussion, aimed at shaping the dialogue for the coming decades.

The conference programme will be centred around five key strands, spanning the latest research, contemplative approaches, and innovative concepts. This will include addressing the many social and global objectives for mindfulness and compassion, all aimed at enhancing our health and well-being, mitigating conflict and stress, and ultimately benefiting the planet.

An exciting conference programme is in place, bringing together a rich range of speakers, including names such as Jon Kabat-Zinn (joining virtually), Rhonda Magee, Martine Batchelor, Vidyamala Burch who will come together to discuss the theme of Mindfulness in Changing World. The conference aims to be an inclusive, welcoming atmosphere for all.
